Top 10 things you can do for the nation

By | December 4, 2008

We are hurt, we are angry, we are betrayed, we want security, we want a better life…we want change. All the leaders are corrupt, electoral system is flawed, security forces are weak. What can one do to help the situation ?

heal India

After criticizing the politicians, conducting numerous candle marches, speaking so much about the necessity for a change, the fact is that we are still clueless of what action can we take to bring about this change that we need. Here are a few suggestions..

1. Apply for Short Service Commission or join the Indian military forces. There are still thousands of positions vacant in the Indian Armed forces

2. Join Politics/Civil services, stay unfazed, stay clean and lead India to a better future. If politics is a mess, we need to step right in to clean it up.

3. Cast your vote in the elections.  Get everyone else you know to vote too. Use 49-O if necessary. You can’t really blame the government which you haven’t elected.

4. Pay your taxes, ask the government what it is being used for. Use the RTI. Keep a regular check on where and how the money is being spent.

5. Stop bribing govt. officials/policemen/traffic police. Its us who promote the corruption, lets stop it now.

6. Do not indulge in any illegal activity. Stop buying pirated CDs/DVDs, they make a good source of income for the underworld.

7. Know your neighbors. If there is someone new in the area, get the info about them, cross check with the local police station.

8. Speak up and reach to the authorities, if you see anything wrong/illegal happening, do not stay quiet. Most govt authorities work if they are nagged to do so.. go ahead do your bit.

9. Participate in educational initiatives and teach, more education, more awareness, better society.

10. Have faith in your efforts to bring the change. Together we can and will create a difference.

Please feel free to add more things to the list… lets identify every possible thing in our hands to bring the nation back on track..

Sadly, it has become rare finding such posts. All today’s youth care about is flamboyance and wealth. Do they even care what happens to the nation if they don’t vote? They don’t. Look at the plight of our nation! This indifference toward politics and everything, I dare say, isn’t healthy. This facade can’t go on for long. That much is for sure.

How many of them do you think do all you have mentioned? A few may be! Most others think they are fooling the govt! A friend of mine forged bills to reduce the tax amount. Is it the greed for money or a stupid thought that everybody’s doing it; Why not I? I don’t know what to say! For this country to change, every entity must come forward, as you had rightly pointed out. Change can’t come in a day and we of course cant blame our stupid politicians all the time. After all, it’s we who elected them! People talking against the country proclaiming they hate the country, must first follow the rules! ;)

So Danish,

You happy with the elections results? Read some but would like to know the workings of your mind.

No doubts I have vested interest in knowing what smart intelligent people want/think. :) (maybe I should add ‘young’ too)

Hi Maya,

Yes I am happy with the results, but not with the performance of the voters. The turn out at polling booths was still very low.

Also, participating in elections is just one of the many things the youth should do for the nation. There are lot of other areas where we need some introspect and self governance. If we do even few of them right, it would lead to a much better tomorrow.

Thanks for visting. I’d try to post more frequently, stay tuned :)
